The art and design studio of illustrator Ning-ning Li and graphic designer Tom Chapman, Chapman-Li is nestled in the heart of Digbeth, Birmingham’s creative quarter. Ning-ning and Tom were first brought together through music in 2012, as band mates in an institution responsible for two decades of artistic first-meetings – Joe Broughton’s Conservatoire Folk Ensemble. Having each built up portfolios of visual work alongside their music careers, Ning-ning and Tom found that their mix of skills were a perfect fit and completed their first album artwork collaboration within months of meeting. Ning-ning and Tom are proud of Birmingham’s rich arts scene, working on art for some of their hometown’s most innovative musicians, record labels and promoters, as well as providing album sleeves, print campaigns and merchandise lines for some of the leading lights of the wider folk, jazz and creative music world.
Whether a hand-illustrated piece, digital artwork or a design centred on photography and typography, Ning-ning and Tom always start the process in their sketch books and nothing leaves the studio until they both love it. Recent commissions have seen Chapman-Li add a somewhat unexpected string to their bow and Tom and Ning-ning are now very excited to offer bespoke wedding stationery for those looking for something truly unique for their special day .
